Two Struck By Car On I-35 Near Austin, TX.

On Tuesday, two individuals were hit by a passing car as they stood near their stalled car on the side of Interstate 35 in Buda.  Both were knocked unconscious with one being thrown over the barrier into oncoming traffic.  This created a multi-car pileup and drivers attempted to swerve and miss the two individuals. Both were taken to an area hospital, and fortunately, neither suffered injuries that are expected to be life threatening.

There are likely multiple causes to this car accident.  The most obvious is that it is never safe to stand outside of your car when it breaks down on a busy roadway.  Always remain in your car until help arrives.  At the same time, a stalled vehicle on the side of the roadway is a very common occurrence.  As such, drivers need to be aware of their surroundings and either slow down in response to cars on the shoulder or move over if possible in an effort to avoid incidents like the one discussed above.
