1 Driver Killed in Semi-Truck Collision

A 47-year-old man was killed early Wednesday morning in Portland, Oregon after his BMW collided head-on with a UPS semi-truck. According to police, the driver was going northbound down the wrong side of North Basin Avenue at a curve when the two vehicles collided. Police suspect that speed played a factor in the crash, in addition to wet road conditions. The driver of the UPS truck, a 49-year-old man, did not appear to be injured at the scene.

A second car was reported to also have been speeding northbound alongside the BMW. Police investigators later managed to contact this driver, and stated that he was cooperative with the investigation. No official police report has been submitted at this time.

Traffic delays in the area extended to over 45 minutes due to cleanup and investigation of the wreck. Many drivers reportedly parked their cars in nearby streets and walked the rest of the way to their destinations.
