Three people were injured when an 18-wheeler ran into several cars on Highway 71 in Austin on Sunday. The 18-wheeler apparently failed to stop in a timely manner and collided into several cars, causing several to flip.
A total of 7 cars containing 15 passengers were struck by the truck. The wreck took place right on the exit from Highway 71 onto Interstate 35. Because it was a flyover entryway there was nowhere for traffic to go until the entire scene was cleared out about 1 hour later.
3 people were transported to the hospital with minor injuries. At this time police have not reported a direct cause as to the accident or why any of the drivers seemed to lose control of their vehicles.
