18-Wheeler Driver Samuel Bears Killed in Highway Wreck – Distracted Driving Blamed

Samuel Bears, a 58-year-old man from Fort Worth, Texas, was killed when his 18-wheeler crashed on Interstate 35 near San Marcos, Texas last week. The crash occurred at about 1:24 a.m., just between Hays and Comal Counties.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Bears was holding a cigarette lighter when he became distracted. DPS Stated that Bears attempted to avoid driving into a vehicle in front of him, and instead slammed into a concrete barrier in the median of the road, flipping his truck onto the shoulder of the road.

Bears was unfortunately killed at the scene. All southbound lanes of the highway were shut down for about 6 hours for investigation and cleanup. No other vehicles were involved in the wreck.
