Angelica Beard and Truck Driver Killed, 20 Injured, in East Texas Crash Between School Bus and 18-Wheeler

Two people were killed and twenty injured late Thursday night in a crash between a car, a school bus, and an 18-wheeler truck on an East Texas highway.

The wreck took place on U.S. Highway 271, 2 miles south of Talco, Texas. According to reports, the 18-wheeler truck was moving north on 271 and veered into oncoming traffic. The school bus, heading in the opposite direction on the highway, swerved out of the way to avoid a head-to-head crash. The large truck then slammed into a passenger car right behind the school bus.

Both drivers of the 18-wheeler and the car were killed in the accident. The driver of the car was identified as Angelica Beard, 30, an assistant coach for the Mount Pleasant girls track team. The driver of the 18-wheeler has not yet been identified.

The school bus was carrying the boys track team for Mount Pleasant High School in Mount Pleasant ISD. The team was heading back from a track meet about 50 miles away, in Paris, Texas. As seen below, the bus flipped on its side and sustained heavy damage.

Exact numbers on those injured in the crash are not yet clear, but one report stated that about 18 students, one coach, and the driver of the school bus were all injured. Another report stated that three of the coaches and a student remain hospitalized.
