Dale Steven Eppard, 65, died on Saturday after the 18-wheeler he was in crashed into a pillar on an interstate highway in Virginia.
According to police, Eppard’s truck swerved off of the road and crashed into the pillar supporting an overpass on Interstate 81 at Port Republic Road in Harrisonburg, Virginia. No other vehicles were involved in the wreck.
The exact cause of the crash is still being investigated. It is not clear whether Eppard was the driver or passenger in the tractor trailer. The highway was shut down in both directions as emergency responders arrived on the scene.
The bridge was not damaged in the crash.
