Dallas Fire Truck Hit While Responding to Emergency

A fire truck responding to an emergency in Dallas was involved in a multi-vehicle accident Thursday morning at about 11 a.m.

The fire truck, responding to a call on a structure fire, was headed through a red light at the intersection of Jim Miller Road and R.L. Thornton when it was hit by a Chevy pickup truck. The Chevy was moving through a green light but failed to yield to the emergency vehicle.

After it was hit by the Chevy, the fire truck then crashed into a Kia sedan that was stopped, pushing it across three lanes until it struck a telephone pole.

Two of the firefighters were sent to nearby hospitals for minor injuries and were later released. The driver of one of the other vehicles was also sent to a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

The fire truck’s engine also set on fire due to the crash, but it was quickly put out.

It was not stated whether the driver of the Chevy pickup received a citation.
