Fiery 18-Wheeler Crash Shuts Down Gulf Freeway Outside Houston

Early Wednesday morning a fiery wreck took place between an 18-wheeler and a truck on the Gulf Freeway at Clear Lake City Boulevard near Houston, Texas.

The crash took place at about 2 a.m. when an 18-wheeler truck caught fire while driving northbound on the highway. The fire caused the driver to lose control of his vehicle and strike a broken-down pickup truck that was sitting in the emergency lane on the right shoulder of the highway.

Houston Fire Department arrived on the scene quickly and was able to put out the fire.

The driver of the pickup truck was taken to the hospital by emergency services.

Several lanes of the highway were shut down for cleanup for nearly 5 hours, causing significant traffic delays. No report has been released as to why exactly the 18-wheeler initially caught on fire.
