Motorist Killed After Colliding with Police Vehicle

An unidentified motorist died late Friday night in North Dallas after crashing his vehicle into a state trooper’s vehicle on the side of a highway. The incident happened at about 8:45 p.m. according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

According to police, the driver of a Toyota was driving southbound on the left side of the Dallas North Tollway, near Trinity Mills Road, when he crashed into the trooper’s car. DPS officials stated that the driver was speeding when he lost control of the Toyota, moved across the entire tollway, and ran into the trooper’s Chevy Tahoe. The Tahoe was parked as the officer awaited a tow truck to help move an abandoned vehicle.

The driver died at the scene of the crash, but the trooper was uninjured. The southbound lanes of the Tollway were closed for several hours. Investigators are still working on an exact cause of the crash, and are unsure at this point of ice and snow on the roads contributed to the wreck at all.
