Rollover Truck Accident Causes Hazardous Material Spill and Evacuation

A rollover accident involving an 18-wheeler truck caused an evacuation near Vernon, Connecticut due to the spillage of hazardous corrosive materials from the truck.

The crash took place Sunday evening on Interstate 84 when the large truck lost control and left the road, eventually going down an embankment. Materials being hauled in the trailer soon spilled out onto the side of the road.

Officials with the Department of Transportation stated that the truck was hauling two separate gas materials that could create a hazardous combination if mixed. Due to this potential hazard, five houses in the area were evacuated.

Police reported no injuries in the area due to the wreck. The driver of the truck was ticketed for driving too fast for the weather conditions, which included ice and slush on the road.
