Truck Driver Ravikesh Kumar Killed After 18-Wheeler Overturns

Ravikesh Kumar, a 26-year-old truck driver from Sacramento, was killed last week when his box truck overturned on Interstate 680 in Danville, California.

The crash occurred on Interstate 680 near El Pintado Road at about 3:25 a.m. on the southbound side of the road. According to the California Highway Patrol, Kumar lost control of his vehicle and ran into an abandoned minivan on the shoulder of the road. Officers reported that the minivan was parked well off the road, and that it is unclear what exactly caused Kumar to veer so far off the shoulder.

After striking the minivan, Kumar’s truck flipped and hit a metal pole. Emergency medical workers arrived on the scene soon afterwards, and pulled Kumar from the wrecked truck. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died. The truck was transporting packages, which largely consisted of retail and Christmas-wrapped packages, which were thrown all over the road.

Cleanup crews helped clear the road of the spilled packages, and the road was closed for several hours as federal postal employees helped organize damaged and undamaged packages.
