Woman Extracted from Car, Seriously Injured, After Semi-Truck Collision

A woman was critically injured yesterday morning when her Volvo sedan was struck by a semi-truck in Ottawa County, Michigan.

The wreck occurred at about 8 a.m. Thursday when the woman, 53, stopped at a stop sign and continued through an intersection. She was immediately struck on her passenger side by the semi, which was carrying sawdust. The truck continued along its path and pushed the Volvo off the road and into a tree to the side of the intersection.

As seen in the picture below, the woman’s car was crumpled around the front of the truck. The woman was pinned inside her car, and firefighters were required to extract her from the vehicle. Police officers stated that she was semi-conscious and talking afterwards. She was transported via EMS to Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids.

The truck driver was not reported to be injured. At this time the crash is still being investigated, and no citations have been issued.
